Goose and Badger Coffee
GONDO PB - KENYA
GONDO PB - KENYA
Our second release from the current Kenyan harvest and a special peaberry treat for you all. What is a peaberry (PB) I hear you cry. Well Peaberry's are a single coffee seed. In 95% of coffee fruits there will be two fertilised seeds pressed together giving them a familiar flat face on one side. When only one seed is fertilised it grows alone and a peaberry is created. In some countries like Kenya the peaberry's are sorted and sold separately. They are very. dense and roast a bit differently being a more round shape. Do they taste different? Well that's for you to decide.
Situated in the highlands of Murang’a County, the Gondo Wet Mill is part of the New Kiriti Farmers’ Cooperative Society, one of the region’s established democratic producer organisations. Established in 1998, the New Kiriti Farmers’ Cooperative Society represents 2,469 active smallholder farmers, with Gondo Wet Mill serving 727 producers. Coffee is cultivated at approximately 1,900 metres above sea level, where deep red volcanic soils and moderate temperatures create ideal conditions for high-quality coffee production.
The classic washed process has the fruits sorted, pulped with fresh water before fermenting for 15-18 hours then thoroughly washed and graded before drying on raised beds and preparing for export.
October's Filter Club felt like a bit of a treat when we opened the bag, these gorgeous small round beans are a delight. Roasted fairly quick to first crack with a moderate development time to preserve acidity and develop sweetness. There's an intense smooth fruitiness to this coffee, aromatic mango, juicy red grapes all come to mind with the rich sweetness of a chocolate fudge are what we think about as we've been brewing it.
Best for all types of filter and immersion brewing like cafetière and Clever dripper or for a bright, fruity/acidic and syrupy espresso.
